AEGD Program Goals and Objectives
- Provide residents with the necessary didactic and clinical experience that will enable them to provide comprehensive dental care to the broadest possible spectrum of the population, and to care for special patient groups such as children, adults, those who are immuno-compromised, special-needs patients, geriatric patients, and the financially challenged.
- Enhance the understanding of, and provide experience in, public health and private practice administration, including experience in working with a staff in a multi-operatory environment.
- Provide residents with an understanding of practicing in rural communities, with an emphasis on public health, cultural competency and multidisciplinary health issues.
- Provide residents with training in quality assurance protocols, ethics and risk management techniques.
- Enhance the resident's ability to make sound clinical judgments in arriving at a diagnosis and treatment plan, making decisions during the course of treatment and assessing post-treatment outcomes.
- Enhance the resident's ability to provide treatment using dental auxiliaries in an expanded-duty capacity (dental hygienists and dental assistants).
